November 18, 2009. The jubilation was short-lived for 16 Mangyan hungerstrikers and their supporters when, upon scrutinizing DENR Secretary Atienza's suspension of Intex Mining's environmental compliance certificate (ECC) issued that afternoon, they found that the suspension covers only 90 days. Enough time for Intex to submit documented proof that it conducted public consultations to be issued an ECC!
The hunger strikers are now on their 7th day of fasting.
FLASH REPORT FROM MINDORO HUNGER STRIKERS: Gardo Cruzado, a Mangyan and one of the 25 hunger strikers camped outside DENR head office, was rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center. Please repost.
